An Ex-Marine on The God of War

An ex-Marine comments on Joseph Judson Taylor‘s book The God of War:

Received my copy of God of War earlier this week and I’ve spent the last two days studying it, making notes and adding some of J.J. Taylor’s quotes to the margins of my Bible. The book is magnificent in its scope and historical range. It should be in every church library, and the subject of, or referenced to, Bible studies that address our engagement with society and government. It should be taught in every Sunday School class to our children long before they come of age to enlist. It will not be popular. There are not very many lovers of Truth. And seldom does one find anybody more self-righteously correct with the war god on his side than a patriotic American Christian. Pride being another grave sin, I might add. It is to be expected from those whose god is humanism with its foundations of power and greed, but certainly not a contrite spirit that has acknowledged its proper place before the Lord. I speak these words with humility because I, too, was blinded. It took my service in the Marine Corps thirty years ago to realize just how Satanic our government is. I was sent out to kill and be sacrificed; the author had it right. (That is a story in itself I will not dwell on.) It is imperative that we focus, clarifying what Christ’s teaching really means, rejecting all others. The consequences are both immediate and eternal. We will all stand before God one day. I think the most chilling phrase in my Bible is “depart from me, ye workers of iniquity, I never knewyou.”
