An American Romance
July 4, 2017
An American Romance is a 1944 American epic drama directed and produced by King Vidor who also wrote the screen story. ‘I’ve just seen the greatest picture our company ever made,’ MGM’s Louis B. Mayer told the director at the film’s preview. Vidor would later direct Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead while at Warner brothers. Both movies celebrate indomitable men of integrity whose entrepreneurial spirit of drive and vision embody the American romance with individualism, capitalism, and the free society we celebrate today.
