Wilsonian Gnostics

I think Wilsonian Gnostics make a nice ecumenical description of American Christian Imperial warmongers. This term conveys both the American and essentially gnostic nature of the movement which has caught an heretical hold of many across the American denominations. For the Catholics, there is Hannity, Novak, and Weigel. For the Evangelicals, there is GWB, Hagee, Dobson, and Hewitt. For the Latter Day Saints, there is Romney.

The term also transcends Christians across American party or ideological lines and it could stick as a historical description, since it conveys the broad nature of the movement with its origination by St. Woodrow. Whether on the left or right, you see Wilsonian Gnostics. While the Christian right likes to call itself Hard Wilsonian, Bill and Hillary Clinton are quintessential ones on the Christian left. Whether its bombing civilians in Serbia or bombing them in Iraq, these Christians have no real ideological divide.

They are gnostic because they see themselves as the elite who are in the know, unlike the rest of us. They erroneously think they can create their own reality and seek to impose it upon all others at the point of a gun. They have no regard for the universal dignity of the human person and could care less about the fate of their fellow Christians amidst their heinous causes. Whether it involves the evisceration of Japanese Christians at Hiroshima & Nagasaki, the plight of the Melkites in Palestine, or the ancient Churches of Babylon, all that matters is that Americans are safe. American safety takes precedent over the rest of humanity no matter what the cost. Their manifest destiny is to be in the land of the safe and the home of the cowards. Thus, the Wilsonian Gnostic seeks to find its life through the proliferation of war on humanity, even if it means the destruction of Christ’s Church.

Thankfully, according to Christ’s guarantee, hell will not prevail.
