What About Yemen? What About Bahrain?

Hillary Clinton was last seen (two months ago) all smiles with Yemen’s President. He’s smiling because of the $300 million in U.S. aid. This is the same President who just killed at least 50 Yemenis and wounded hundreds of others using snipers on rooftops to put down demonstrations. (His own U.N. envoy and others have resigned in protest over this.) Will the Obama-Clinton war machine go to the U.N. for another no-fly zone? Will it seek to depose Saleh? Will it do the same in Bahrain when the deaths caused by government suppression of demonstrators mount up beyond their current levels? The Empire is getting in deeper and deeper, and for no sound reasons at all! Obama and Clinton have non-humanitarian and non-democratic reasons for hitting on Gaddafi and Libya and interfering in Libya’s civil war. This is about control, dominance, control of oil, the Empire, prestige, removing a thorn and getting a more pliable regime, and continuing to present an image of being in control of the situations across North Africa and the Middle East. There is nothing like bombardments to paint a false picture of control. But ultimately the social and political structures are going to be shaped with moral and other considerations paramount, not Tomahawk missiles. The presence of Western military forces in all these lands will be seen as illegitimate by the peoples who live there. More and more Americans will now wake up to the fact that the Empire is for real and that it’s not helping them by its many overseas ventures. The Empire’s expansion stimulates its own destruction.
