True compassion, true conservatism

John Couretas at the Acton Institute blog highlights recent studies showing that self-identified conservatives tend to give more to charity than self-identified liberals. This is not surprising, since most folks who believe that is the duty of individuals, not the duty of the state, to help the less fortunate still call themselves conservative. This is so even though the official conservative movement long ago made peace with the welfare state, proving yet again that true conservatism is more often than not the exact opposite of beltway conservatism.
