Despite the fact that RFID chips are not secure and can be read by hackers from miles away, all new passports contain them. It’s illegal to disable them, so if you’re interested in being a model citizen like myself, you should leave your RFID the way it is. While it’s true that’s it’s not illegal to be in possession of a passport that has a non-functional RFID chip, you still probably shouldn’t hit your RFID chip with a hammer to disable it without leaving any signs of tampering. Remember, it’s more important to obey the state than to protect your privacy.
