Government Medical ‘Care’: Turning Qualified Doctors Into Waiters

This account by a doctor on the CNN website, “Why your waiter has an M.D.,” unwittingly makes the case against state-controlled medical care. He tells the story of a surgeon from Eastern Europe who clearly is qualified to do surgery in this country having to support himself as a waiter in a restaurant because of government rules and policies.

On one hand, the government slams down price controls on medical care in the name of making it “affordable” and available. On the other hand, the government artificially reduces the supply of qualified physicians and other medical personnel in the name of “quality.” In reality, what the government does is create shortages which effectively denies care to people who need it.
