Art Imitating Life?

Andrew Gavin Marshall again demonstrates why he is one of the most insightful and astute writers on the Internet. He raises an excellent point in his article, Globalization’s ‘Game of Thrones’, Part 1: Dynastic Power in the Modern World: How many viewers make the Gestalt connection between dramatic TV programs such as Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, House of Cards, or Boardwalk Empire, and the real world of amoral power politics; of thievery, murder, and corruption as Realpolitik.

Does anyone know of any analytical studies on this phenomena? Sounds like an excellent project for Stanley Rothman and S. Robert Lichter.
