A Peek into the Non-Profit World of the Beltway

Good for Mike Allen (son of the much-missed Gary) for this scoop: that a conservative Beltway group offered to back Fed-Ex against UPS and the unions, for as much as $3.4 million, in return for written-to-order newspaper columns, grassroots and direct lobbying by  its staff and directors, etc. When Fed-Ex said Nope, the group turned its coat and backed UPS, as did other Beltway conservative non-profits. Thank goodness the original offer was in writing. Remember always that when some Beltway non-profit — conservative, liberal, or otherwise — backs, say, the Lockheed Child-Shredder as versus the Martin Marietta Old-Lady Killer, it does not mean that careful, scholarly examination of the pros and cons led to this decision. By the way, Fed-Ex is right, and UPS and the Teamsters are wrong. The Obamafeds are trying to harm Fed-Ex to the benefit of the gangs called unions, and the company’s competitors.
