Writes Wes Baker:
Lew,
After reading Douglas Valentine over the years, it’s not difficult to understand the latest deep state infighting. Doug comes from a solid (non-neoliberal) left background, so, this is no, new Alt-Right or semi-neo-con (Hannity’s recent I’ve-seen-the-light-on-Assange) reaction. Valentine has been independently investigating the CIA for 30 years.
Three points of Valentine’s stalwart work come to mind:
One of his major theses is that the mainstream media is the CIA. In this sense. The editors and management of the big papers and broadcasters went to the same Ivy League schools as the CIA boys. (Columbia School of Journalism for instance.) They share the same ideologies, similar, privileged backgrounds, etc. The MSM sets up management practices that only allow their Ivy League reporters to parrot what the CIA leaks to them. In other words, controlled access/controlled reporting.
A secondary Valentine discovery is the placement of CIA stooges as senior, congressional committee researchers. He was even recruited to be one in late 80’s. (Doug comes from a blue collar background, but his tenacity in reporting/writing garnered enough ‘respect’ with the agency to try to ‘pay him off’ with a cushy, but obviously, influential committee position.)
Thirdly, Valentine gained enough access to understand that the CIA is really a militarized agency. There are hosts of soldiers and sailors within the CIA. They’re either ‘double-hatted’ – they officially work for the Pentagon but really do CIA covert work, or they are retired military. These grunts still have a Cold War bent. Yeah, they’ll plot and lay waste to secular, Pan-Arab regimes like Hussein, Gaddafi, Assad, but their main backdrop is that scurrilous, Cold War mentality.
Of course these are only a few of Valentine’s major contributions to understanding what may be the world’s greatest and largest criminal gang, but it goes some way in understanding why the deep state would be so desperate to destroy Trump’s peaceful overtures to the Russians.
