Wal-Mart CEO and former Marine William Simon has announced that the company plans to hire 100,000 vets over the next five years. What if Wal-Mart announced that it was going to hire 100,000 men, whites, or Christians? There would be outrage from liberals and conservatives and even some libertarians (not me). But let’s look at this from an economic perspective. Is this a wise decision? What if the economy slows down after two years and you don’t need to hire anyone else? Will Wal-Mart hire an extra 60,000 vets anyway just to show how military-friendly the company is?
