In his testimony before the Senate Committee on Spying and then Lying About It yesterday James Comey insinuated that the president invited him to a private dinner with just the two of them so that he could threaten and intimidate poor little patriotic Boy Scout Jimmy, and even get him to “obstruct justice.”
An alternative hypothesis about the purpose of the dinner is that Trump wanted to find out the source of all those felonious leaks from the FBI to the media. He told Comey things that only the two of them could know, and then waited to see of any of it would end up in the New York Times. It did, and Comey himself admitted that he had a “friend” leak the story. He was promptly fired after the story appeared in the Times.
