This insane Ukraine/Russia War is leading to serious and profound attempts to distort and totally re-write world history in the most egregious and duplicitous way. This is outrageous and should be condemned in the strongest terms regardless of one’s positions on this present conflict.
Anger in Japan as Ukraine Links Emperor Hirohito to Adolf Hitler
An official Ukrainian government Twitter account issued an apology after showing a picture of Japan’s wartime Emperor Hirohito alongside Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini in a social media video about the defeat of fascism.
“Our sincere apologies to Japan for making this mistake,” read a message on the Ukrainian twitter feed. “We had no intention to offend the friendly people of Japan.” An edited version of the video without Hirohito’s picture was appended to the post.
The tweet had circulated widely over the weekend and prompted an official protest from Japan. It also threatened to alienate some conservatives from the Ukrainian cause in a country that has been strongly supportive of President Volodymyr Zelenskiy since the Russian invasion began.
Here is the hard historical reality of the Axis Power leaders that should be decisively asserted to the peoples of the world and not be allowed to be cast down the Orwellian Memory Hole —
The outbreak of World War II saw two motion picture experts from Germany and the United States battle each other with as much ferocity as any army or navy. Their respective missions: to ignite a public desire to wage and win a global conflict. This program contains insightful interviews with Fritz Hippler, chief filmmaker for the Nazi Party, and Frank Capra, renowned Hollywood filmmaker who worked for the Allied cause, noted for his gentle, humane films about ordinary folk standing up to oppression.
I showed these two films, A Walk Through The 20th Century With Bill Moyers – WW II: The Propaganda Battle, and Why We Fight: Prelude To War, to my World History students for 27 years. Prelude To War was officially produced under the auspices of the Office of War Information of the US Army Signal Corps under the approval of US Army Chief of Staff General George Marshall. The Why We Fight series was shown to all American military personnel to explain the causes and rationale of American involvement in the War. It was also widely distributed and seen by tens of millions of American citizens, as well as thousands of persons in Europe and the Soviet Union, under the official sanction and direction of President Roosevelt. It was the most common and popular means of communicating this vital officially sanctioned information to both American and other citizens of the world. I therefore used the most widely seen, distributed and remembered source containing the image of Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Emperor Hirohito, the film Prelude To War, to counter this despicable effort to distort world history regarding the Axis Powers of Adolf Hitler and Germany, Benito Mussolini and Italy, and Emperor Hirohito and Japan. I could have posted this official document (but knew that few persons would take the time to fully examine its detailed contents.)
