The Union of Soviet Socialist Police (USSP)

Yuri Maltsev tells the story of how a “former” KGB goon tried to defend the mass murder of tens of millions by the Soviet government in the twentieth century by claiming that a lot of people who were forcefully sent to Siberian slave labor camps and who died of starvation or froze to death died of “natural causes.”  Their deaths should therefore not be counted as part of the death count of Russian socialism, said the KGB goon.

I was reminded of this this morning upon hearing the local news in Baltimore about a young black man who was brutally beaten and repeatedly tasered by the Baltimore city cops shortly before he died of a heart attack.  According to the local news, a state attorney has investigated the death and has concluded that the young man died of “natural causes unrelated” to the beatings and taserings.  There will be no charges or punishment for the cops who beat and tasered the teenager to death on the street, Stalin style.  The claim is that this young nineteen-year-old man would have had the same heart attack had he simply been walking down the street smelling the roses and listening on his headset to his favorite tunes.
