The Atlantic Council (AC): Pro-Empire All the Way

Joe Martino’s article today publicizes a very important fact: The Atlantic Council is influencing Facebook’s censorship targets.

Facebook joined up with the Atlantic Council [AC] in May of this year:

“Experts from their [AC’s] Digital Forensic Research Lab will work closely with our [Facebook’s] security, policy and product teams to get Facebook real-time insights and updates on emerging threats and disinformation campaigns from around the world.”

Five days ago, Daniel McAdams led the way in pointing out the Facebook-AC link.

The link runs deeper than surveilling and expelling of Facebook users. Facebook strategies and policies are to be influenced by AC as this part of Facebook’s announcement shows: “The Atlantic Council’s network of leaders is uniquely situated to help all of us [at Facebook] think through the challenges we will face in the near and long-term.”

AC is pro-U.S. involvement internationally. It is pro-Empire. It is anti-Russia. It wants the U.S. to meddle in foreign affairs. Its influence on Facebook is bound to be pro-internationalist, meaning pro-U.S. Empire. AC is pro-global leadership of the U.S. and anti-Trump for this reason.

AC’s mission is as follows in their words: “The Atlantic Council promotes constructive leadership and engagement in international affairs based on the Atlantic Community’s central role in meeting global challenges.” How constructive is it to get the U.S. involved in Ukraine? How constructive is it to promote American exceptionalism and worldwide interventions?

In 2015, the AC published a report titled “Preserving Ukraine’s Independence, Resisting Russian Aggression: What the United States and NATO Must Do”.

That report promoted the pro-Empire narrative. Its title contains a Big Lie. Russian aggression on Ukraine is a fiction.

Martino writes “TAC on several occasions has created fake news stories, that went viral, about the very political narratives independent media is pointing out as false yet are being called propaganda. So who is truly creating propaganda?”

The Facebook-AC link means that at least one subset of targets of censorship will be spread across the political spectrum. They will be chosen, not so much on the basis of left and right, but if their narratives tend to be contrary to those promoted by the pro-Empire stories. The phony cover story that can always be invoked is that a target is promoting disinformation that can affect elections.
