re: Milking the Homeland Security Cow

September 22, 2004

Jim Grichar’s article today on the Homeland Security pork barrel is especially relevant to the news in Maryland. In today’s local papers was the announcement that Governor Bob Ehrlich has decided to spend some of his federal “Homeland Security” funds to subsidize “security” at private Jewish schools. Apparently, Jewish parents in Maryland are not willing to spend what it takes to protect their own children in school, so we taxpayers must support them. I don’t expect there will be any more “security” at all to speak of. Instead, these private schools will simply be passing on the costs of employing security guards to the taxpayers. Now that this first olive is out of the bottle, it’s a good bet that all other private schools in the state will be clamoring for the same, just in time to help the good governor get re-elected.
