“Private” vs. “Public” Education

Tom: You are quite correct in the practical non-distinction between private and governmental schools. Baldy Harper once told me – when IHS was still located in Menlo Park, California – that Stanford University – a privately-owned school – received a greater percentage of its operating budget from the government than did U. Cal – Berkeley – a government school. I don’t know if this is still the case, but it wouldn’t surprise me to find that things have not changed.
