The Military Owns MLB
June 30, 2016
The Atlanta Braves and Miami Marlins will play a “salute-the-troops” game on July 3 at a temporary stadium constructed at a Fort Bragg ballpark. This article points out the “long, complex history” that the military has with MLB as told in a book that I was not aware of: The Empire Strikes Out: How Baseball Sold U.S. Foreign Policy and Promoted the American Way Abroad.
Laurence M. Vance [send him mail] writes from central Florida. He is the author of The Free Society; War, Christianity, and the State: Essays on the Follies of Christian Militarism; War, Empire, and the Military: Essays on the Follies of War and U.S. Foreign Policy; King James, His Bible, and Its Translators, and many other books. His newest book is The U.S. Proxy War in Ukraine.
