Because, for just a short while–maybe 30 seconds–the other night, watching various speakers at the Democrat Convention, even I felt a brief tug of hope, “hey, maybe they can improve things … maybe they can improve the economy, improve our standing in the world, make us get along better…” Then I snapped out of it, and shuddered.
