Contra Cohen

January 17, 2016

From Joseph Salerno’s Facebook page:

The feeble-minded NYT journalist Roger Cohen justifies Syrian immigration on the basis of what he calls the “Capone Principle.”  Hey, Italian immigration gave us Al Capone–but it also gave us Enrico Fermi, Frank Sinatra and Joe DiMaggio.  Therefore–are you ready for this?–the costs of immigration are outweighed by its benefits.  Of course the argument is laughable.  But given that Cohen chooses to flippantly name his principle after a notorious Italian-American criminal, it also reeks of latent Christophobia.  Of all European American immigrants, Italian immigrants are those most closely associated with the Catholic Church and therefore doubly susceptible to left-wing Hollywood stereotyping and journalistic insensitivity.
