Dear Walter,

Greetings from Fascist Illinois.

People are starting to rebel against the stay-at-home orders of Governor J. B. Pritzker.  Three or four law suits against his orders are currently active in the Illinois courts, although I question the utility of petitioning one part of the government to tell another part of the government to stop violating people’s rights.  Also, there have been numerous protests in Chicago and Springfield, the state capitol.   Most importantly, people are starting to defy the orders, although not yet on a large scale.  I hope the defiance spreads. And I expect it will.  Even Pritzker admitted there is very little he can do to force people to obey his orders.  It seems to me that civil disobedience could be a very effective way of exterminating government.  What are your thoughts?

Dear Randy:

I don’t think that civil disobedience could be a very effective way of exterminating government. The forces of evil will fight for their survival. However, I think that civil disobedience could be a very effective way of reducing the size and scope of government. I think that the recent protests at state capitals, and crowded beaches will open up the economy sooner than would otherwise have been the case.

As for the wisdom of this civil disobedience, I’m not sure. I adopt an agnostic position on this matter, since I don’t know that facts.
