Are the Universities a Lost Cause? Is Your Teenager Already a Communist? Is Luigi Mangione His New Hero and Role Model?
December 18, 2024
Early in my career I was asked to give a very elementary introductory lecture on economics to a class of summer school public school teachers. After the class a woman who appeared to be in her 30s came up to me with a look of alarm on her face and said, “Oh my God, I’m a communist!” She was a product of government schooling, so I wasn’t exactly surprised. That was decades ago and universities, which Mises called “nurseries for socialism” way back in the 1940s, have become infinitely worse with their socialist indoctrination since then.
This socialist indoctrination long ago filtered down to K-12 education. During the last twenty years of my forty-one year university teaching career I noticed that most of the incoming freshmen were already thoroughly indoctrinated in all the latest socialist sloganeering, buzz words, and superstitions even if they were seemingly genetically incapable of understanding the simplest economic logic of supply and demand.
Join us in Tampa, Florida on February 22 for a Mises Circle on “Educating for Liberty” to discuss how education in America can be saved from the communistic philistines who have largely captured the educational system in the country. Florida has been at the forefront of new efforts to do just this, and is the perfect place to have this event.
The registration is $70 for Mises Institute members and $75 for others. Use the code LRC25 for a 10% discount. Registration includes all the lectures and discussions and a catered breakfast.
There will be an optional social hour afterwards at the nearby World of Beer in Tampa with an appetizer buffet, beer, and wine. Tickets are $65 and the LRC25 discount applies. See you in Tampa!
