Neocons Hijack Reagan Again
March 15, 2016
The Establishment is apparently willing to pay anyone who will defend it against its coming demise.
This time around, it’s the dependable lapdog Peter Wehner, who hijacks Reagan to diss Trump, the destroyer of the GOP.
Naturally, Wehner’s oleaginous preen oozes with the required condescension for the unwashed (I was waiting for him to tell us that Trump’s supporters were “largely poor, uneducated, and easily led.”).
Curious, isn’t it? Mr. Wehner worked for Bush 43, but his piece somehow fails to mention him. W, whose illegal wars **did** destroy the party, enjoyed Wehner’s avid support through 2008 and beyond. So what if he handed the White House to Obama?
Heckuva job, Peter! And hey, how do you feel now about the war? Even Jeb wouldn’t defend it. Will you?
[crickets]
In fact, Wehner worked for Bush 41 as well. We remember, of course, that 41’s henchman Jim Baker cleansed the entire executive branch of any Reagan supporter. Which means that, if Wehner was such a big fan of Reagan then, he was undoubtedly (and uncharacteristically) modest about it.
An entire generation of neocons are desperate to salvage what is left of their shredded reputations. Of course, the dying statist media like Time and the NYT are willing to accommodate them – even paying them well – as long as they dance to the elitist tune.
Curious that, some eight years ago, when a Time mag writer criticized Wehner, Wehner apparently demanded that Time fire him.
Ah, memories. Well, neocon reputations rely on amnesia. So, to quote Spock, may I suggest: “Remember!”
In the spirit of comity, as a counter to Wehner’s self-serving treacle, I recommend this view of Trump, from a Reagan ambassador who actually knew the Gipper.
UPDATE: readers will undoubtedly be shocked to discover that Mr. Wehner’s last star role featured his work for the Mitt Romney Campaign in 2012.
Funny he didn’t mention that, either.
Remember: the neocons are always wrong, and they never, ever apologize.
