Government vs. Rebuilding
September 24, 2007
Writes Andrew Kovacs: “I went to the Chicago rally and brought some friends with who didn’t really know anything about Dr. Paul. During his speech he made a comment about how, despite all the government money coming into New Orleans, over half the development is privately funded. One of my friends seemed astonished at this statistic.
“After the rally, we eventually made it to the John Hancock Center and went up to the observation deck. There was a small wall display about the Chicago fire, talking about how it disrupted lives, etc. One of the panels was a picture of a building under construction with the statistic underneath saying that within a week of the fire, there were more than 5,000 temporary tents/shelters, and 200 permanent buildings under construction. WITHIN A WEEK! Many of these buildings are still standing today! The comparison to Katrina was obvious, and the same friend remarked how he didn’t realize how well things got done without government ‘help’.
“Ron was also nice enough to autograph my rifle stock. He didn’t even flinch when I handed it to him. I don’t think you’ll find many other candidates willing to do the same.”
