Hold on to your wallets, folks! Buried in a headline, “AI risk must be treated as seriously as climate crisis, says Google DeepMind chief,” The Guardian reveals all the reasons why…

a) folks should stop reading The Guardian right away,
b) climate crisis is the primary global tool of elite class warfare, and
c) none of the people who invented AI can be trusted to manage AI.

Now let’s take a look at each of the above…

Point a) Once an elite progressive newspaper, The Guardian is now to the good folks of Britain what The New York Times is to Americans: an elite regressive instrument of state propaganda and class warfare. Then again, mass commercial media have always been instruments of the state.

Most major members of the Fourth Estate held a private estate sale generations ago when they auctioned off their primary functions as public advocates and government watchdogs under the First Amendment for good seats at the White House Correspondents Press Dinner.

Still, they pose at times as journalistic rogues and paragons of resistance, and hide behind rare behavioral anomalies like the Pentagon Papers while they promote every war and every major government spending program just so they can create the illusion of a free press for those of us who still require the illusion of a free press. Glibness aside for at least one sentence, the managed illusion of freedom and democracy is very big business.

Point b) Being lectured to about the potential evils of AI by the Google DeepMind big head is like being lectured to about the potential evils of war by Raytheon. Google DeepMind? Are you kidding me? Maybe they should use ChatGPT to come up with something a little more Orwellian.

Of course, nothing screams class warfare louder than the climate crisis: how obscenely wealthy people compel the rest of us to safeguard and insure their oceanfront properties, finance their trillion-dollar wars, and pay for their green energy scams.

God help the poor and middle class if the elite take AI as seriously as they do the climate crisis. With any luck, we’ll all be riding the same bus to the DMV to purchase carbon credits so we can stop to buy some edible bugs on the way home. I can see The Guardian headline now: Beef risk must be treated as seriously as climate crisis, says Google DeepMeat chief.

Point c) Being lectured to about the potential evils of AI by the Google DeepMind big head is like being lectured to about the potential evils of war by Raytheon.

Of course the same people who think they can manage AI are of the same hubris as those who thought they could manage social media, now a study in abject damage control.

Not to worry, however: at least some of those now in charge of AI think it’s a good idea to create a global organization to monitor and regulate it. Kind of like how the WEF, the W.H.O., and the U.N. help monitor and regulate the plunder and pillage of poor and middle-class people worldwide, help monitor and regulate pandemic profits, and help monitor and regulate the occasional outbreak of peace. Hard to imagine who will pay for the new global AI authority.

That said, it’s good to know that governments and elite media around the world are on the job and looking out for themselves. Good to know they’re so concerned about a mass assault of AI-generated disinformation, misinformation, and malinformation — especially since they’re the biggest producers, distributors, and profiteers of disinformation, misinformation, and malinformation. They could certainly use the help: nothing less than our civic duty.
