They Are Coming After Me

From the Tom Woods Letter:

What I’m about to write is sadly necessary, even if it means interrupting my usual newsletter.

As you might imagine, a guy in my position finds himself the object of attack from time to time.

Now I’ll be a sport and admit that like anyone, I’m of course not beyond criticism. But the kinds of things said about me in a particular sliver of the libertarian world are so grossly disproportionate to any actual offense or so wildly uncharitable in their interpretations of what I do that my supporters and I are left speechless.

People ask, “Why all this effort to make you out to be something anyone who listens to you for 10 minutes knows you obviously aren’t?”

But remember how the left operates. Everything is hysteria. If you don’t favor lockdowns, for example, you’re an instrument of white supremacy. You cannot have a rational conversation with people like this.

Now by the way, it’s not the left-wing of the libertarian world per se that has these alleged problems with me. (I say “alleged” because I doubt they actually believe their own criticisms; this is simple tribalism at work. No one could believe these criticisms — more on which below.) The scholarly left-libertarians — like the prolific and brilliant Gary Chartier, to whom I devoted an entire week of Tom Woods Show episodes — are perfectly cordial with me.

We are talking here about people with no such accomplishments, if I may put it bluntly.

They claim I am a “bigot.” Ever seen a shred of evidence of this? No? Well, how about that! This must be the first time someone has been accused of “bigotry” by the left for no reason other than that he disagrees with them!

Here’s why the recent flareup in Woods hate.

I’ve been invited to speak at the 2022 Libertarian National Convention.

I spoke at the 2016 convention and not a peep out of these people.

Here’s what’s changed.

(Incidentally, I understand that of course not everyone who reads this newsletter will care about the Libertarian Party. Understood. I consider it an outrage that the party stood by in silence during a year of lockdowns and restrictions, and I can’t let that continue.)

As I discussed on episode 1900, good people have been starting to dominate state chapters of the party. By good people I mean people focused on the key issues — the lockdowns, the Fed, the military-industrial complex, decentralization — and who don’t get distracted by rushing to adopt whatever the left’s latest cultural demand is.

In Nevada there had been total silence about the lockdowns. Not one word. The state party did have time to criticize Ron Paul, whose shoes they are not fit to shine, and accuse everyone under the sun of “bigotry.” They somehow managed to pencil that into their busy schedules.

I have seen my critics call AOC, in these exact words, “the most libertarian member of Congress.” Thomas Massie, meanwhile, the real hero (to those of us who, unlike my critics, have a complaint or two about Dr. Fauci), is shunned.

A fellow named Elliott Scheirman, who by what I am sure is pure coincidence wrote in support of the lockdowns, is circulating a petition to get my invitation to speak withdrawn.

I’ve devoted 20 years of my life to this cause. When the financial crisis of 2008 hit, I wrote a New York Times bestseller (Meltdown) explaining that the culprit wasn’t “capitalism.”

I don’t know what my critics were doing at that time, but I can tell you it wasn’t that.

For the homeschool community, I contributed 400 videos on history and government. Do you have any idea how hard that is and how long that takes? You can find them here, and as part of the Ron Paul Curriculum.

I’ve done everything I can to counter the government narrative about the wisdom of their interventions.

I have rather a long list, but those are a few items for you.

Here is the full case against the crazies. I think you’ll find it entertaining reading, and you will be left breathless that people of so little honor actually exist:

Now here is where I am asking for your help.

If you are a member of the national party, I am asking you to use the link below to write to the Libertarian National Committee to thank them for and affirm them in their decision to invite me to speak.

I have no financial stake in this, by the way. I have waived my usual speaking fee. This is a matter of principle.

No way will I be bullied out of speaking by people who think hysteria and smears (and yes, I have answered every single one of their claims) will get them what they want.

It is beyond ridiculous that I should even have to waste my time (and yours) on this, but I refuse to let this happen.

Thank you for your help:
