A Goldmine for Identity Thieves

Nearly every digital copier built since 2002 contains a hard drive, like your PC. It stores an image of every document copied, scanned, faxed or emailed by the machine. This commonplace piece of office equipment is really a digital time-bomb packed with highly-personal or sensitive data.

Just think about all of the personal information you provide to your broker, physician, insurance agent, tax-preparer, etc. Most Americans are clueless (or don’t care) about this threat. Likewise many businesses and governments are unaware or don’t want to spend money for software that wipes the data out.

How easy it it to buy a used machine? Very, and inexpensive too. (5:17)
