A few days after Katrina, my wife and I returned with a moving truck to leave New Orleans for good. Because of the road blocks, our trip had to be planned around the government schedule. We had to stay with family some 20 miles outside of Orleans Parish and then get on the road early in the morning, only to find the road backed up for miles as people were lining up to enter the blocked parishes. Once we were there, we were greeted by federal police and soldiers. It was not a pleasant experience.
