Pope Odds take a dramatic turn

Wow, the news that Pope John Paul II could be declared a saint immediately–as was Pius V and Pius X–has caused turmoil in the pope betting markets. The great and brilliant Cardinal Ratzinger is now the number one pick, followed by Cardinal Carlo Maria Martina. Meanwhile, the previous favorite, Cardinal Tettamanzi of Milan, has slipped down to #7!

Coda: ok, on the question of PV and PX, I misread the NYT: “Since about 1100, only three popes have been canonized: the 13th-century Pope Celestine V, the 16th-century Pope Pius V, and Pope Pius X, who died in 1914.”
