Paul Goodman, Youth Culture, and Compulsory Education

Michael, the great left-libertarian Paul Goodman was one of the earliest and most perceptive critics of compulsory education and its deleterious effect on Youth Culture. In his books, Growing Up Absurd: Problems of Youth in the Organized System, and Compulsory Mis-Education and the Community of Scholars, Goodman voiced fundamental libertarian concerns which became seminal to the New Left critique of the American corporate welfare-warfare state and its university adjuncts. The March 6, 1978 issue of Inquiry Magazine was devoted to an appreciation of Goodman.
