While there have been some exceptions, most new presidents have only emboldened the state. It seems that they can’t avoid doing so. In a way, they inherit –and often adopt– the previous administration and all of its despotism.
Obama has promised change. He might very well believe that he can bring about real, substantial change. Yet Obama will be unable to do away with the thick historical cruft that has built over generations.
Barack: do not take the oath. Instead, I recommend that you retire from politics at once. As president, you will not be able to overcome many of the policies you dislike. At “best,” you will be a good Republican.
