My Quick Run-In With Copyright

Earlier today we went to a park for a picnic with some friends. I took a bunch of photos and created a slideshow in iPhoto with some music that Apple includes with its iLife suite. After the video was complete we uploaded it to Facebook, where it was summarily rejected because of copyright infringement.

It turns out that Apple included this one particular track for personal use only and apparently posting it online to Facebook falls under the category of “broadcasting.”

This is the kind of thing that you get when you mix intellectual property legislation with state-backed industry associations that continue to do their darnest to stifle innovation, creativity and new business models.
