Free Paris Hilton!

Everybody is making fun of Paris Hilton for not wanting to go to jail. But why should she? Why should she or anyone spend 45 days in one of these socialist hells for the crime of driving her car without a piece of government paper? (Link via Digg.)

In all the contemporary celebration of jails, torture, and capital punishment, few remember that Jesus Christ was a prisoner. So was St. John the Baptist, St. Peter, and St. Paul. Says Jack Miles: “Christianity is a religion founded by men in deep trouble with the law, men familiar with the inside of prisons.”

Indeed, we are instructed by the Lord to see Him in the prisoner, as in the poor, the lonely, and the sick: “I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you came to me, I was in prison and you visited me” (Matthew 25:35-36).
