Thanks to James Carroll for pointing out that Herod was only the first in a long line of statists who hated Jesus Christ because Christ showed mankind that there is higher power above the state. Carroll also points out that focusing on how Christ was the enemy of the Roman Empire may prove uncomfortable for those Christians who are trying to transform the Prince of Peace into a cheerleader for the American Empire’s perpetual wars for perpetual peace.
