Obama’s Antagonisms Lead Away from International Law

September 11, 2014

Because of Obama’s antagonism toward Syria’s current government, he spurned Syria’s offer to help fight ISIL. Because of Obama’s antagonism toward Russia, he has avoided taking the case of ISIL to the Security Council, and he has not sought the cooperation of Russia. Instead he is forming his own coalition and will bomb Syria. Russia’s and Syria’s responses are predictable. Russia termed Obama’s intention a “gross violation of international law” and an “act of aggression”. Russia is correct. Syria repeated “Any action of any kind without the consent of the Syrian government would be an attack on Syria.” This also is correct.

Obama’s antagonistic foreign policies toward Syria and Russia have tied his own hands and precluded that he act in accordance with international law concerning ISIL (or ISIS or IS). He is acting like his predecessor in the Oval Office. America is suffering two disastrous presidents in a row and 16 years of folly. However, the alternative candidates were just as bad or worse because they had and have the same basically moronic ideas about how to conduct foreign policy. We are seeing an incredibly low level of intelligence, maturity, common sense, knowledge, patience, and informed good judgment being applied by successive White Houses, and this low level is shared broadly by most of those holding power in Washington.
