'America's Unhealthiest Drink' and My Delicious Recipe for
a Heart Attack in a Glass
by Andrew M. Brown
Some people
are getting terribly agitated by the new
American milkshake that contains 2,100 calories. Its main ingredients
are peanut butter and chocolate, hence its name: PB & C. Plus,
the nice folks at Cold Stone Creamery throw in a generous slug of
double cream (or heavy cream as our American cousins call it) for
added texture and heft. The drink comes in a 24 oz cup. Apparently
the shake rendered Jamie Oliver speechless, which is no mean feat.
People have even called it a heart attack in a glass.
I have to say,
I do not know what all the fuss is about. From time to time I drink
a pint or more of a thick milkshake that I whip up in my Hamilton
Beach blender. Its delicious and provides a real boost to
the spirits.
The ingredients
are: two ripe bananas, a third of a pint of milk, three big scoops
of vanilla ice cream, one teaspoon of vanilla extract and two tablespoons
of smooth Skippy peanut butter. Then you simply whizz the whole
lot for a few seconds and decant it into a pint glass. You do not
need to add additional cream, as long as you use a high quality
ice cream for which, see below. Its full of energy,
and not too sweet. An ideal way to get some extra calories on board.
