I was watching a few of the major league baseball playoffs, and noticed a number of players – from different teams in different leagues – wearing very lengthy beards (some a foot long or longer).  I remember as a kid – back in the late 1940’s – going to a game in which one team – The House of David  – had a number of heavily-bearded players. As I recall, the House of David was a team representing a Jewish religious group in Benton Harbor, Michigan. (They were a very good team, by the way.)
