‘Netanyahu and the Crumbling Israeli Lobby’

March 3, 2015

Jon Basil Utley’s article is hot in DC today.

Paul Gottfried sends along his “agreement with [Jon’s] comments on the GOP and the Israeli Lobby. Until recently I persisted in the habits of a German intellectual historian and imagined that the sabre-rattling of the GOP could be entirely explained by looking at neoconservative ‘ideology.’ I may have put the cart before the horse. Jon and Chomsky are spot on about the role of the ‘defense industries’ in keeping the belligerent noise-making going night and day. Zionist donors are another source of campaign financing for the Republicans; and the two interests have easily merged in the present Republican ‘worldview.’ Murray Rothbard, who was hardly a Marxist, once explained to me that if money doesn’t explain everything, in party politics it does explain a great deal.”
