Senator Warren, who has presidential ambitions, is very fond of one attack line: “The Republicans have given their vision about how we build the future. They said, ‘I’ve got mine, the rest of you are on your own.’ ” She doesn’t say where this appears in Republican literature or voting records, which have been endorsing the programs of Democrats for a long time.
Does Senator Warren have hers, I wondered? She and her husband earned almost $1 million in 2009. Their 2011 net worth is estimated at $14.5 million.
Shall we examine the wealth of other members of her party and ask if they have theirs?
Is Senator Warren saying that she was not on her own? Or that she was?
Obviously she’s trying to say that her party is the party that will not leave you on your own, that will help you. How? It has no resources of its own. Where will it get them? And will it really help you? Can any party really help you? Can any government really help you? Whatever gifts it may seemingly bestow will be more than counter-balanced by taxes. Whatever rules it imposes to help you will produce losses elsewhere that you are unaware of.
Elizabeth Warren, like many politicians, is a demagogue. Its definition? “A political leader who seeks support by appealing to popular desires and prejudices rather than by using rational argument.”
