Writes Jeff Taylor:
re: “If Trump Is Considering VPs”
Trump could do far worse than Joe Scarborough. Don’t forget that he voted for Ron Paul in the Florida primary in 2012. I saw Scarborough in Tampa at the Republican National Convention that year. I told him I was a Paul delegate from Iowa and asked him about Paul. He replied, “I was angsting about for whom to vote until I got into the voting booth. Then it took half-a-second to mark the ballot for Ron Paul.” Also, Scarborough was very public in calling out Gingrich on his phony conservatism in 2012.
I saw Ted Cruz up-close in Tampa when he was a Senate candidate. He and Rand Paul came to the Iowa delegation breakfast together and each spoke. I liked much of what Cruz said. For example, he told us that overspending was a bipartisan problem, that Republicans were also to blame. He said he didn’t know any conservatives who did not leave the polling place in 2008 feeling like they needed to take a shower (after voting for McCain). He said the best thing for Republicans was losing in 2008. Looking back, I think he was playing to the crowd in the room. He would not criticize the Romney-Ginsberg rule changes. At the time, I wrote, “Pretty slick–too slick?” I sensed what I now know: he’s a smarmy, power-hungry fake. I don’t know why Amash doesn’t see it.
