Writes David E. Steuber:
Yes, they are panicking. I’ve subscribed to National Review for many years and they are currently after me to renew my subscription. One of their recent importunities noted that “we rely on the kindness of readers to keep us afloat.”
Interesting. I’ve always thought that I subscribed to a publication because it gives value for my money. I didn’t realize that my doing so was an act of kindness.
I am particularly annoyed by their vendetta against Trump, which I view as arrogant and disgusting. I have no problem with their supporting candidates of their choosing, even if I disagree. I have a big problem with their haranguing me issue after issue about whom I should not support.
One of their recurring themes has been that Trump is not a true “conservative.” My response: Right! Not a conservative like G.W. Bush, who increased the national debt from $5 trillion to $10 trillion in eight short years, or like Mitt Romney, who introduced an earlier version of Obamacare in Massachusetts and thereby neutered himself from raising the issue in the 2012 election.
