UN Security Council to issue text calling for resumption of Karabakh talks within OSCE Minsk Group framework

The United Nations Security Council discussed hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh, Global Village reported, citing AFP.

Te Council members called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to respect a new ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh.

The UN Security council held closed-door discussions on the fighting, which has left hundreds dead since clashes erupted on September 27.

Russia, which currently holds the council’s rotating presidency, is working on a statement that would call for adherence to the ceasefire, diplomats say.

The text—which is expected to be agreed between council members this week—will also call on Armenia and Azerbaijan to resume negotiations facilitated by the OSCE Minsk Group.

Armenia won’t hesitate to initiate CSTO if necessary – Deputy FM

YEREVAN:. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Shavarsh Kocharyan has said that Armenia won’t hesitate to apply to the CSTO if such necessity arises. According to him, such necessity doesn’t exist now.

When asked by reporters why Armenia isn’t applying to the security bloc, Kocharyan said that not officially applying to the CSTO doesn’t mean that Armenia isn’t constantly working with the organization.

He said requesting the CSTO to initiate its response requires a direct aggression against Armenia. Kocharyan said it’s too early to describe the Azeri actions against the Republic of Armenia as such.

“If an attack were to happen against the Republic of Armenia, indeed we will apply to the CSTO. We’d first of all apply to the United Nations, stating that an aggression is taking place against us, and in accordance to the UN charter we initiate self-defense, and then also apply to the CSTO. This process is regulated,” Kocharyan said, presenting the process of initiating the security bloc’s response if Armenia were to be attacked.

“Officially not applying to the CSTO doesn’t mean not working with the CSTO constantly. There is even exchange of information at the level of the top officials,” he said.

Kocharyan said appropriate steps will be taken when the time comes, but he expressed hope that this won’t be necessary.

Amid the massive attack on the Republic of Artsakh since September 27, the Azerbaijani armed forces have occasionally delivered drone or rocket-artillery strikes inside the territory of the Republic of Armenia, killing and injuring also civilians.

The CSTO is a military alliance between Armenia, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgzystan and Tajikistan, its charter stipulates that member states are bound to protect one another if anyone of them gets attacked.

Armenia calls for suspending drone tech exports to Turkey

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has urged countries supplying Turkey with the components of Bayraktar drones to suspend future shipments, given that the UAVs are being used to strike Armenian positions and civilian settlement in Karabakh.

Pashinyan said Tuesday, October 20 that the Karabakh troops have downed at least 10 Bayrakdar drones since the beginning of hostilities on September 27, and only one of them has landed on the Armenian soil.

“What makes this so important is that this is more evidence of Turkey’s direct engagement in preparations and the terrorist fight against Artsakh,” Pashinyan said.

Canada suspended arms exports to Turkey as it investigates the use of Canadian technology in the Karabakh conflict, and the Armenian PM is calling for everyone else to follow suit.

The Turkish drone shot down by Nagorno-Karabakh troops on Monday had operated a total of 31 hours, Armenian Defense Ministry spokeswoman Shushan Stepanyan said Tuesday.

“The optics and sensor pod mounted on the Turkish Bayraktar TB2 Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle is an L3 WESCAM CMX-15D model, designed by WESCAM in Ontario, Canada, a subsidiary of L3Harris Technologies,” Stepanyan said.

“It was manufactured in June 2020 and attached on the UCAV in September 2020.

YEREVAN – A drone from the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has crashed in Khoda Afarin town, East Azarbaijan Province, northwestern Iran on Tuesday, IRNA quoted Khoda Afarin governor Ali Amiri as saying.

Azerbaijan using banned weapons against Artsakh civilian population

A cluster bomb used by Azerbaijan has been found with more than 260 shrapnel bombs not far from capital Stepanakert, the Artsakh Republic State Service for Emergency Services reports.

According to the source, not all of the bombs have exploded

It reminds that using the type of weapon is against all international conventions, which prohibit their use against civilians.

“The territory where the rocket was found is an economic activity zone. The people there engage in animal husbandry, farming, and beekeeping. There are no military structures in the area,” the source said.

It is noted that the sapper groups of the State Service for Emergency Services Rescue Forces will destroy the munitions found in pastures and adjacent forests.

The Armenian and international media representatives currently located in Artsakh have covered and reported on the bomb disposal.
