Honoring Murray

Mark Higdon:

Lew, your call yesterday to honor what the late Mr. Rothbard would call for is, itself, noble. In big-picture terms, it means nothing: as an eclipsing majority of Americans have no idea who Murray was, let alone what he stood for, let alone how it relates to their daily lives, nor how disregard thereof impacts them. The time here for that depth of education and its application is, sadly, long past.

Unless and until the average American internalizes the existential (yes, that adjective) ruin already inflicted upon him–with far worse to come–no other frame of reference will count for more. We can hope only to rebuild from the ruins. Not to prevent them. They’re already here.
