Writes Mark Seiler:

Hi Lew,

Interesting that the discipline question has been removed for college applications. It reinforces something that hit me last week when I was driving to the Atlanta  area about 4AM.  I was listening to WGN from Chicago (I love listening to far away stations while driving at night) when they had a conversation about student loans and how repayments had been suspended due to Covid-1984 and such. It suddenly dawned on me that colleges, for the most part, are not institutions of “higher learning” but, have become, like auto dealers, merely financial instruments. Car dealers aren’t about putting you in your dream ride, they’re all about getting you to finance something for 5, 6 or 8 years or more. From what I’ve seen colleges no longer produce better thinkers but, rather, indoctrinated debt drones that will forever be on the hook for their student loans.

By removing the discipline question colleges now can generate even more debt slaves, which based on their adolescent behavior, can be counted on for perpetual payments.
