Lew, much has been pontificated to the effect that those advocating the US’s possibly (probably?) nuclear confrontation w. Russia are simply over-confident: the latters’ thinking being that Putin will back down to their omnipotent decrees and–possible–first strikes.

I take this view: They are in a state of invincible denial as to the existential (yes, that adjective again) outcome of the all-out nuclear exchange that they assume they can limit or prevent.

Their ignorance may be vincible. The vincibility ends there. Its consequences are nowhere on their radar: eclipsed by their hubris. The world will suffer, and maybe die in the umbra of their arrogance.
