Why Not Praise the Politicians?

To those who excuse the actions of U.S. troops because it is all the fault of the politicians who send them to war, why not praise the politicians on Veterans Day instead of the troops. A reader writes:

Why do the troops get all the praise? Why is it not the politicians that get the heaps of praise and worship? For surely if it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t have all of these troops around the world “defending our freedoms” or “making the world safe for democracy.” If it wasn’t for the politicians the troops wouldn’t be “fighting over there so they don’t have to fight over here.” I declare today be changed to Politician Day, for if it wasn’t for the politicians that sent the troops all over God’s creation, there certainly aren’t any that would volunteer to go “over there” and fight some foreign stranger “for our freedoms.”
