Senator Diane Feinstein, who should have retired from the Senate a decade ago, has died at age 90. Some Republican senators are praising her. Sen. Tom Cole said: “I know many of us had the opportunity to deal with her, and certainly all of us, on both sides of the aisle, respected her.” And Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) added: “Sen Feinstein did an outstanding job representing the people of California.” And then there are the female Republican senators:
- Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) remembered Feinstein on social media as a “trailblazer for women in politics,” adding: “Despite our differences, I enjoyed our work together to protect songwriters and take on Big Tech.”
- Sen. Katie Boyd Britt (R-Ala.) also remembered the California Democrat, praising her “life of service,” in a social media post that also credited her with “blazing a path for women in the Senate and girls across our nation. In the face of tragedy and tribulations throughout her career, she was fearless. Our prayers are with her loved ones.”
I think I know why. She was a vocal drug warrior and a prominent defender of government surveillance of Americans, things that many Republicans agree with.
