Have you noticed that in dealing with many government departments now, we are referred to as “customers”? Talk about Orwellian newspeak.
I’m not the government’s “customer”—I’m it’s slave. The only reason why I and anyone else deals with the government is because it uses guns that force us to deal with them. I’m Amazon’s customer. I’m Microsoft’s customer. I’m Samsung’s customer. If I don’t want any or all of their goods or services, they cannot come after me with a gun and force me to pay for them and use them.
(Many years ago, a friend of mine told me how he heard a radio interview of a woman who was on welfare who referred to her welfare checks as her “salary”!)
UPDATE: Dan Bowden writes:
“Worse yet, I saw a story on local news a few months ago about a county tax collector office in Florida that had won an award for “best business” because of their fast and effective service to their “customers.””
