Writes Ben Dunphy:
“One day the dean from my undergraduate program asked me why my grades were slipping. I told her that I never let my schooling interfere with my education.
I had been watching a number of documentaries and reading up on alternative sources to the establishment lines that I was ‘fed’ in my macroeconomics class et al. But it wasn’t until I came across LRC that I truly started to see the light.
The journey from establishment zombification is a long and arduous one. It takes a bold step to accept that mostly everything that you’ve ever learned was a lie — a disgusting, evil one at that — and that you’ve actually paid good money to ‘learn’ these things. I ebbed back and forth between neoliberalism and libertarianism, since it is difficult to maintain one’s social life, let alone sanity, living on a college campus of Obama-loving ignoramuses.
My tipping point was when one of my econ professors looked me square in the eye to answer my question, How will we ever get out of debt? ‘Just take out more debt.’ So we’ll pay for loans with loans? ‘Mmm hmmm.’
LRC has become a daily read for me. Along with Glenn Greenwald, I would say that your website and the resources you provide have taught me more about economics, politics, and life at large than I ever learned through undergraduate study — or could in a typical master’s and doctorate program.
For that reason, I did not hesitate to donate to your website. Keep up the good work.”
