We Need 6x As Many AR-15s and AK-47s

In the latest debate among Democrats contending to be nominated for president, Beto O’Rourke said “Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47. We’re not going to allow it to be used against our fellow Americans anymore.” He proposed mandatory paid confiscation of such guns.

O’Rourke has his policy completely backwards. The right idea is for Americans to have at least 6 times as many semi-automatic rifles as they now have.

There are somewhere between 8.5 and 15 million semi-automatic rifles in the U.S., a number not broken down between private and government ownership. Regardless, Americans need far more of these weapons. I’d say at least 6x as many. If the country had 50-75 million of these distributed widely among us private owners, then we could all be much more sure that the government couldn’t confiscate them without a great deal of push-back from owners.

We need such widespread ownership to prevent the extension of further government tyranny. We need lots of AR-15s so that the government will fear us, and we won’t fear the government. We need to be well-armed so that no one will think they can trample our rights. We don’t want people in or out of government thinking we’re pushovers and weak. We need lots of semi-automatic rifles so that we good people can deter bad people from acting upon their criminal ways and impulses, be they in the government or out.

According to Britannica, the “first considerable engagement” in the American Revolution
occurred at Bunker Hill and Breed’s Hill on June 17, 1775. This followed the affair at Lexington on April 19. If today’s ignorant Democrat and Republican gun-grabbers would consult a detailed history of this early battle between the revolutionary colonists and the British, they might learn what guns, bravery, spirit and determination on the part of ordinary people can accomplish in the face of superior forces. The colonists could never have won their political freedom without their guns.

It may be that some of the gun-grabbers KNOW already what guns in the hands of an overwhelming majority of us means, which is why they want to disarm us.

The colonist bravery is exemplified by Salem Poor:

“Poor’s valor and gallantry at the Battle of Bunker Hill prompted 14 officers, including Colonel William Prescott, to cite him for heroism and petition the General Court of Massachusetts with the following statement:

‘The Reward due to so great and Distinguished a Character. The Subscribers beg leave to Report to your Honorable. House (Which We do in justice to the Character of so Brave a man) that under Our Own observation, we declare that A Negro Man Called Salem Poor of Col. Fryes Regiment, Capt. Ames. Company in the late Battle of Charleston, behaved like an Experienced Officer, as Well as an Excellent Soldier, to Set forth Particulars of his Conduct would be Tedious, We Would Only beg leave to say in the Person of this Negro Centers a Brave & gallant Soldier'”
